I'M RENTING A HOUSE AND I WANNA KNOW IF IT'S IN FORECLOSURE?

THIS IS THE STORY, I FOUND A HOUSE FOR RENT ON CRAIGSLIST AND THE MAN THAT RENTED THE HOUSE TO ME DID NOT WANT ME TO MAKE A LEASE WITH HIM, WHY I DON’T KNOW…. I’VE BEEN LIVING HERE FOR AROUND NINE MONTHS NOW AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO A MAN RANG MY DOOR BELL AT 7AM IN THE MORNING WITH A BADGE ON HIS CHEST. NOW I ANITIONALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE POLICE BUT IT WASN’T, IT WAS A MAN THAT HAD A LETTER IN HIS HAND ASKING FOR THE OWNER OF THE PLACE AND HE SAID HIS NAME…. BUT THE NAME HE SAID WAS NOT THE NAME OF THE MAN THAT RENTED ME THE PLACE… SO NOW THAT MADE ME FEEL SUSPICIOUS… WELL BACK TO MY STORY, THE MAN SAID THAT THE HOUSE THAT I WAS RENTING IS IN FORECLOSURE. SO I TOLD EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE GUY THAT RENTED ME THE PLACE. HE CLAIMS THAT HE DIDN’T PAY THE MORTGAGE FOR TWO MONTHS BECAUSE HE WANTED TO REMORTGAGE HIS HOUSE THRU A CITI BANK PROGRAM CALLED "CITI BANK HARDSHIP LOAN" BUT WHAT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME IS THAT REMORTGAGING YOUR HOME AND NOT PAYING YOUR MORTGAGE HAS NOTHING IN COMMON DUH. AND HE CLAIMS THAT THE MAN THEY WERE LOOKING FOR IS THE OWNER OF THE HOUSE, BUT ONLY THAT HE AND HIMSELF ARE "PARTNERS" IN THE HOME AND THAT THEY BOT IT TOGETHER AS A PARTNER DEAL. SO FROM HEARING ALL OF THIS, DO YOU THINK IT’S SOME KIND OF SCAM. THAT HE’S JUST LIEN TO ME, THAT THE HOUSE IS BEING FORECLOSED AND HE’S JUST TRYING TO SQUEEZE SOME EXTRA MONEY OUT OF ME BEFORE THE BANK COMES TO TAKE THE HOUSE. AND THE GUY DIDN’T WANT TO GIVE ME A LEASE SO AM I GONNA BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY BY THE BANK NOW BECAUSE I HAVE NO LEASE? BUT I DO HAVE ALL MY RENT RECEIPTS. AND ONE MORE THING IS THERE A WEBSITE I CAN GO TO THAT I CAN FIND OUT IF MY HOUSE THAT I’M RENTING IS BEING FORECLOSED? PLEASE RESPOND. THANKS!

    Contact the local county recorder of deeds and ask if there is a notice of default on the property also check with the local court and see if there is a foreclosure in process. (Two kinds of foreclosure judicial and non-judicial.) Also any foreclosure should post a notice on the house.

    There are a lot of Foreclosure Scams going around right now. Pay your rent to the owner and don’t pay rent or any foreclosure fees to anyone else. If you don’t have a lease the bank will probably force you to move if they do foreclose.
